Details for group Wikizzle

General information

  • Groupname: wikizzle
  • Users: jimhigson, levkaizer
  • Description:

Wikizzle is a richly featured AJAX interface for MediaWiki with real-time previews and very low server-load. Wikizzle features a client-side wikitext parser and presentation engine, and uses the Prototype and Scriptaculous Javascript libraries. It is written mostly in Javascript, with a few small PHP components.

The aim of this project is to make editing wikis more user friendly (especially for beginners), quicker, and make wikis cheaper to run by moving some of the page-rendering duties onto the client. It also tries to look cool and be fun to work with.

At the moment the project is usable, but still some way from version 1.0. This project was originally Jim Higson's Computer Science BSc dissertation under the name "Wikiwyg", and the copyright is owned by him, having been so assigned by the University of Wales. It is licenced under the GPL (v2 or later).
